James Newbold
James Newbold spent seven years on the staff at Autosport magazine indulging his passion for unearthing little-known motorsport stories. Tackling a history of Formula 3000 for his first book was therefore a fitting challenge.
Enthusiasm for racing was cultivated at a young age growing up in High Wycombe, and did not cease while completing a Politics and International Relations degree at the University of East Anglia. In a sign of things to come, he left his graduation ceremony early to catch the last train to Brussels for the following day's Spa 24 Hours.
The Motorsport UK Young Journalist of the Year of 2018, James has covered races across the world, from Le Mans to Long Beach and the Lausitzring. A correspondent of British GT, DTM and the World Endurance Championship for Autosport, he edited its Engineering supplement for six years. Opportunities to pen deep-dive features on diverse topics ranging from Brazilian stock cars to Larrousse and truck racing were not passed up.
His on-track exploits however are limited to a few laps of the Brands Hatch Indy Circuit aboard a Ginetta. He doubts that he got out of fourth gear.
James lives in Plymouth with his wife and two children.
